While Western stock markets rallied strongly in 2013, particularly the US, Asia was relatively dull. The US was buoyed by easy money, but Asian markets were concerned about the impact of the withdrawal of US quantitative easing (tapering), as their economies had benefitted significantly from inflows of cheap money.
