What’s Hot
  • Gold has risen sharply this month. Five gold funds and one mining fund make up 60% of the top 10.
  • Baillie Gifford’s Positive Change fund has again done well.
  • Two Asia-Pacific funds also make the top 10…
  • …while an interesting fund focussing on Timber rounds out the top performing funds over the month.
What’s Not
  • UK funds from the main All Companies sector are the worst performers. Smaller companies don’t feature, and that sector average is just positive, which could indicate a turning point. Time will tell.
  • There is a mixture of funds making up the Not Hot list. One biotech fund is present along with funds focussing on property shares.
  • Biotech generally has done well, but this shows that niche investing can be highly volatile and different funds can give very different returns.
  • One Energy fund and an emerging market fund have also had a poor showing…
  • …while three Absolute Return funds (one from the Specialist sector) make up the rest of the bottom 10.
